It was the summer of 1817 when Baron Karl von Drais introduced to the public the “Dandy horse”, also called Draisienne or Laufmaschine, which was the first human means of transport to use only two wheels in tandem. It was the official invention of a bicycle.
Since 1817, cycling has been one of the most beautiful forms of transportation. As a part of the anniversary campaign "200 years of bicycle - made in Germany", BMWI has created a map that highlights German innovations revolving around bike and cycling.
